Improv Training

For Actors, Students, Executives, and Personal Development

At Studio South Atlanta, our ongoing improv program is built around four core pillars designed to continuously sharpen your instincts, build trust, and expand your communication tools in a supportive team environment. In alignment with our core philosophy, we focus on ensemble chemistry, lifting each other up, and fostering a collaborative space where every participant grows together.

The Foundations of Connection (Listening, “Yes, And,” Group Mind)

Focus: Building trust, active listening, embracing the foundational “Yes, And” philosophy, and cultivating group mind to create strong, connected scenes.

  • For Actors: Enhances active listening and responsiveness on set, allowing you to react authentically to scene partners rather than anticipating lines.
  • For Executives: Fosters collaborative leadership by teaching you to acknowledge contributions, build on ideas seamlessly, and connect with your team during meetings.
  • For Social Situations: Develops genuine presence and attentiveness, making conversations flow effortlessly and helping you stay engaged in social settings.

Finding the ‘Game’ (Pattern Recognition, Heightening, Theme)

Focus: Identifying the core comedic or dramatic element of a scene—the “game”—and learning how to heighten patterns and explore central themes collaboratively.

  • For Actors: Helps you quickly break down comedic scripts, recognize scene dynamics, and make clear choices that elevate the material during auditions and performances.
  • For Executives: Strengthens your ability to find the core message or “spine” of a presentation on the fly and heighten key ideas during high-stakes discussions.
  • For Social Situations: Sharpens your humor and observational skills, allowing you to recognize shared conversational themes and engage in lively, witty dialogue.

Authentic Character & The Truth of the Scene

Focus: Crafting believable, grounded characters and discovering the emotional truth of a scene through authentic commitment and vulnerable play.

  • For Actors: Teaches you to build deep character motivations and relationships quickly, resulting in truthful, dynamic on-camera choices.
  • For Executives: Refines your personal brand and emotional intelligence, allowing you to project authentic authority, empathy, and conviction when presenting.
  • For Social Situations: Increases self-awareness and comfort when sharing personal anecdotes, enabling you to build genuine connections with diverse people.

Real-World Application (Integrating Skills)

Focus: Integrating listening, pattern recognition, and character work into versatile, real-world execution across professional, performance, and everyday environments.

  • For Actors: Builds confidence to handle unexpected director notes, unscripted moments, and line changes seamlessly while remaining in character on set.
  • For Executives: Master off-the-cuff remarks, Q&A sessions, and impromptu speeches by leaning on structured frameworks and confident adaptiveness under pressure.
  • For Social Situations: Consolidates your conversational flexibility, helping you navigate group dynamics, overcome social anxiety, and relate effortlessly in any setting.
